Suggestive Words

I started working for Elance last month, it’s a site for freelancers which allows writers to bid on jobs. I chose not to bid on a job which involved being the ghostdater (vs. ghostwriter) for a guy on an online dating site. He would provide his calendar and the writer would make the contacts -pretending to be him I assume – and set up dates for him.  Glad I’m no longer on Match.com.

I did bid on a job writing content for a website and I got it! It’s my first real job, involving contracts and deadlines and work with a client. I’m pretty thrilled to have the job as it enables me to list my experience on that site which should help me procure more  jobs. Its like the new guy, straight out of college, trying to find that first job and being turned down for lack of experience. Gotta get the first job somewhere!

This assignment is fun. I’m writing the content for a lingerie website! Yep, sexy lingerie. Yesterday I spent several hours trying to create concise descriptions of  items like lacy bodystockings and delicate white bridal lingerie…. Today? Leather!

What I’m enjoying about this job, aside from the storytelling value of the material I’m writing, is the chance to be creative with the words I choose.  Being able to convey a tone or hint at possibilities with acceptable language in 30 words. I have 26 descriptive passages to do, 26 links of the exact outfit to view and an infinite array of images to create.  I can’t deny the feeling of vitality one gets after looking at this material and thinking about it for hours at a time!

Admittedly, I’m going to be looking for more erotic type work, because I’m finding that I’m good at it.  The client is pleased with my work so far and I’m hoping to see what else might be available.

As a popular actress once said, “If god wanted us to be naked, why did he invent sexy lingerie?”
