Wednesday Words
I do guided imagery meditation, GIM, with a local therapist. For me this exercise is about tapping into my creativity, shifting my way of processing from a purely thinking mode to one of feeling and sensation. Simply put, I come up with an intention to guide my session. The therapist chooses the selection of music which will best elicit the experience I’m seeking. Allowing myself to relax and assume a meditative, open stance I bring the music in and evoke imagery. It is amazing. Some sessions are more powerful than others, in terms of images I see or feel and in how connected I feel. I always walk away with some insight, or inspiration.
Yesterday my intention was to understand and accept that a journey has it’s own pace. In other words, to affirm that things are going very slowly, or at least I perceive that to be the case. I wasn’t as settled as I wanted and the music wasn’t speaking to me as I might have wished. Clearly, I had some expectation that probably contributed to the lack of fulfilling my expectation. One can’t go into this work with a sense of controlling the outcome. It is what it is.
I’ve been doing this work for a few years and I have learned to speak out loud words that seem to “pop up” out of nowhere. They’re almost always insightful. Yesterday’s word serves as an exercise in how to look at words for their different meaning and see how that might apply to a situation, or fit in a paragraph or change according to the reader or circumstance of use. When the word dominion came to mind I shared that. After we finished I was asked to define the word, then asked to take a look at its varied meanings and see how it might apply to my experience of it.
When I think of dominion I go to the biblical usage from the OT. Or maybe Virginia Dominion Power, or as a native Virginian I think of the Old Dominion. I never knew it referred to an order of angels.
1 : domain
2 : supreme authority : sovereignty
3 plural : an order of angels — see celestial hierarchy
4 often capitalized : a self-governing nation of the Commonwealth of Nations other than the United Kingdom that acknowledges the British monarch as chief of state
5 : absolute ownership
